Lexington was first settled in 1642 as an outpost of Cambridge as an agricultural community. Lexington now proudly preserves its rich colonial past and offers visitors a wealth of cultural opportunities.
The events of April 19th, 1775 put Lexington forever into the pages of American History as the Birthplace of American Liberty. The confrontation between the Lexington Minute Men and the British Redcoats is re-enacted every April on Patriot’s Day, the third Monday of the month. The Liberty Ride, a guided sight-seeing tour, provides an entertaining and educational introduction to the town’s history and sites; such as Lexington Battle Green and the Lexington Historical Society of Historic Houses.
Located 16 miles north of Boston, the town offers a variety of shopping and dining, is home to several large businesses, and offers direct access to route 128. Hanscom Air Force Base in nearby Bedford is one of the area’s largest employers, its civilian air strip offering limited commuter flights to Philadelphia and Newark. The town offers residents the benefits of small town living combined with an excellent school system and many amenities only found in larger cities.
