PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Loading Dock Gallery

Show dates: June 29 – July 31
Opening Reception: Saturday, July 2, 5:00 – 7:00 PM
Beat the July heat and enjoy the cool and calming paintings of Gillian Frazier and Priscilla Levesque in Reflections at the Loading Dock Gallery in Lowell. Frazier focuses on expressing abstract interpretations of water reflections while Levesque brings a representational pointillist approach to water, glass, and other surface reflections.
Using oil and acrylic, Frazier paints pattern, line, color, and value to capture the essence of water reflections. She says “I intentionally interpreted the idea of water reflections using different styles: from more realistic interpretations using hard edged brush strokes to more abstract images where I have experimented freely with paint application using the actual drips to indicate the images of the reflections themselves.”
In contrast to Frazier’s paintings, Levesque is inspired by 19th century pointillist painters such as Georges Seurat and Paul Signac. Small dots of numerous colors merge to create a representational image when seen from a distance. Levesque paints with casein which she says “is very useful for this technique because it is opaque, thick, and dries fast.” Her usual painting subjects are landscapes with old houses, barns, fields, and trees. She usually starts her landscapes on location and often paints in her car in winter. For Reflections she expanded her focus to rendering water and surface reflections.
Frazier and Levesque both live in Lowell and have studios at Western Avenue Studios. Visit the Loading Dock Gallery in July to experience two contrasting approaches to reflections; Frazier’s vibrant abstract images juxtaposed with Levesque’s serene pointillist landscapes.
Reflections runs from June 29th through July 31st at the Loading Dock Gallery at Western Avenue Studios, Lowell MA. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 2nd, from 5 to 7 pm, immediately following First Saturday Open Studios (from noon to 5 pm).
