Registration Open for Summer Fun at Tsongas Industrial History Center Summer Day Camps
Lowell, Massachusetts.—Registration is now open for summer day camps that explore Lowell’s history, the Merrimack River, local national parks, and much more. The Tsongas Industrial History Center offers week–long summer day camp sessions that feature fun hands-on and minds-on activities for kids ages 8-14. The Center is an education partnership between the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Lowell National Historical Park, located at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Each camp runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m – 3:00 p.m. Summer camp programs are designed and staffed by professional educators with a ratio of one staff member for each 8-10 children. Snacks are providedand all campers will receive camp T-shirts. Campers bring their own brown bag lunches.
This year’s camp sessions include:
- Boott Camp (ages 8-12)- A hands-on look at the birth and growth of Lowell, where campers build a canal system, weave on looms, and see how people lived over 100 years ago. Offered July 6-10 and July 27-31.
- Boott Camp: Discovery! (Ages 10-14)- Campers use everyday objects to design and build their own creations, then test (and sometimes destroy) them to discover the “whys” and “hows” in Lowell’s stories. Offered August 3-7.
- Wonders of Water (ages 8-12)-Campers explore water, power, transportation and recreation and discover connections between science and history onboard a National Park boat on the Merrimack River. Offered July 20-24.
- National Park Adventures (ages 10-14)- With visits to four Massachusetts national parks, campers join a colonial muster, explore an ironworks, take a boat tour on Lowell’s canals, and discover Boston’s hidden history. Offered July 13-17 and August 10-14.
- Eco-Explorers (ages 10-14)- Discover the natural world in Lowell’s backyard with a canoe trip on a lazy river, an urban nature hike, and other explorations of the outdoors. Offered July 20-24.
Total cost for the Eco-Explorers program is $195, with a discounted price of $175 for siblings in the same program. All other camp programs are $175 for the week, with a sibling discount price of $155 per week. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
