3 Fun Winter Activities for the Whole Family in the Merrimack Valley

Yup. It’s that time of year again. For some New Englanders, we’re heading into the not-so-fun part of winter–you know, when time just seems to drag. This is about when cabin fever finally sets in. And, it tends to affect the entire family.

Last month, we took a close look at a few great ways that you can beat those winter time blues. Today, we’ll explore a bunch of other fun winter activities that the whole family can enjoy.

Let’s dive in!

Hit the Arcade

Winter doesn’t have to be all hum-drum and boredom–especially when you’ve got a couple of fantastic arcades right around the corner. Hitting the arcade is a great way to bring the whole family together. Whether you’re racing each other in Mario Kart, getting the high score in Galaga, or seeing who can shoot the most hoops–you’re sure to do it with a smile on your face.

And, the Merrimack Valley has some of the best arcades around. Just head over to Wamesit Lanes Family Entertainment Center in Tewksbury or Dave and Busters in Woburn to see what we mean. Plus, you’ll even find some great bites to refuel in between games at both locations.

Oh what, you want more? Well, you’re in luck! Wamesit Lanes also happens to have bowling and virtual golf to try out in addition to their large arcade.

Get Active

Okay, maybe you really need to let the kids burn (and you) off some energy. Well, there are plenty of great spots for that too–especially if you’re looking to get airborne!

Why not visit a trampoline park? They’re an excellent way for kids of all ages (yes, even you “kids at heart”) to get out and be active without having to layer up or risk frostbite. Many of these indoor parks, like Altitude Trampoline Park in Billerica, offer a ton of fun activities for visitors. Think dodgeball, basketball, and rock climbing walls–all spread out across trampolines!

Okay, maybe the cold doesn’t bother you that much…lucky you. In that case, now’s a great time to hit the slopes with the entire family. Local ski areas, such as Nashoba Valley in Westford, offer guests all sorts of winter activities. You’ve got the usuals–skiing and snowboarding–but did you also know you can also go snow tubing at Nashoba Valley’s tubing park? Sign us up!

Try an Escape Room

Want to flex your communication and teamwork skills? Book an escape room experience for you and your family at Escapology in Tewksbury.

Escape rooms let you and your crew have a blast working together to find all the clues and unlock the next area. And there’ll be plenty of brain-twisting puzzles to solve along the way. And there’s always some phenomenal theming and storytelling to get swept up in. So, if you’re feeling like you and your family could use mental stimulation, taking on an escape room is a great way to work your noggin’.

See? Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to stay bored and cooped up. Pack up the family and head out for a little fun!
