Lowell Heritage State Park
The Lowell Heritage State Park offers visitors wide open spaces perfect for sports and recreation. The park also hosts various exhibits about Lowell’s industrial history. The 2-mile stretch of park runs along the Merrimack River, creating scenic views as you walk and play within the parking area. The area also plays host to various summer concerts.
Lowell National Historical Park
The Lowell National Historical Park provides an in-depth immersive historical experience for all who visit. This park is a deep dive into Lowell’s industrial history, featuring fantastic views of the old mills. For those looking for a closer look, the Boott Cotton Mills Museum is a wonderful opportunity to experience the ins and outs of a working cotton mill during the Industrial Revolution.
There are also many other places to visit and programs to experience within the park. One of which is the Lowell Walks program – this guided walk takes you on a tour throughout historical Lowell. Pearl Hill State Park
The Pearl Hill State Park presents an incredible opportunity to get out into nature. The park is camping-friendly and features plenty of spots for swimming, biking, picnicking, hiking, and many more. There are also a few recommended self-guided tours of the park available from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation – so be sure to check that out before you go! Facilities include dumpsters, grills, day-use areas, picnic spots, restrooms, and showers.
Willard Brook State Park
You might be surprised to find out that Willard Brook State Park actually connects to the Pearl Hill State Park via the 4-mile Friendship Trail Loop. That’s two great state parks for the price of one! Willard Brook also offers opportunities for camping, hiking, swimming, and much more. Horseback riding is also permitted at this park. On-site facilities include educational programs, picnic views, restrooms, and grills.
Minute Man National Historical Park
The Minute Man National Historical Park is a one-of-a-kind state park experience that immerses visitors in local and national history. Here, you’ll get to explore the famous site of the shot heard ‘round the world which kicked off the American Revolution. History buffs can also visit the famous Minute Man Statue and the Old North Bridge. The park also contains various historic houses which were lived in by notable historic and literary figures.
Additionally, the park features incredible opportunities for taking in the area’s natural beauty. The 5-mile Battle Road Trail passes through scenic farming fields, wetlands, and forests. You even might catch a glimpse of the local wildlife.
