A taste of the Greater Merrimack Valley: The Athenian Corner

Since starting to work in Downtown Lowell, my eyes have been opened to the various types of restaurants that we have in the area ranging from Mexican to Greek, American to Health Lifestyle and so much more to offer!

Recently, I stopped in for lunch at the Athenian Corner Restaurant on Market Street, a Greek gem that I had never experienced before I started working for the CVB. Walking in, it immediately makes you want to travel to Greece, just from the beautifully scenic images on the walls. We sit down in the large booth near the window (personally my favorite seat in the house) and we are greeted by our friendly waiter, Marc.

I start off with the Egg Lemon soup, just a small bowl that comes with the meal so you don’t get too full before your entrée arrives. I order the Spanakopita with French fries (don’t tell my diet though.) The Spanakopita is AMAZING. I never venture outside the box when it comes to eating, but this is so flakey on the outside and warm on the inside that it’s making my mouth water just writing this!

Not only does the Athenian Corner have delicious food, but the staff makes you want to come back again. Teddy Panos, the owner, is always talking with patrons making them feel welcomed and at home. You really can’t beat the hospitality here!

Until next time, Athenian!
