Each year when the leaves begin to fall and the temperatures begin to drop, we all know Halloween is around the corner! This coveted holiday, best known for celebration and superstition, is a favorite for people of all ages. Dating back over 2,000 years, the Halloween holiday has quite the history across the world. Today, the holiday is best known for dressing up, trick or treating and haunted houses. The Greater Merrimack Valley offers its visitors a wide variety of options this weekend to celebrate. Here are a just a few…

For the kids… Monster Bash and Haloween Stroll
When: Saturday, October 29th from 12:00pm-3:00pm
Where: Downtown Lowell & Lowell High School 
What: Enjoy downtown trick-or-treating, costume contests, kids games, and get spooked at Monster Bash’s all ages annual haunted house! Admission is FREE, however donations to support this event are welcome at Lowell High School! All children must be accompanied by an adult at ALL TIMES. Recommended parking: Roy Garage (100 Market St.) and Downes Garage (75 John St.). Hourly parking rates apply.

For a girls night out… Chelmsford Center for the Arts presents Witches’ Night Out 
When: Thursday, October 27th from 6:00pm-9:00pm
Where: Chelmsford Center for the Arts 
What: Witches’ Night Out for the Arts is an adult FUNdraiser to support the Chelmsford Center for the Arts. Get into the Halloween Spirit with a night of fun! Enjoy music, shopping, photography opportunities, snack and maybe even get a drink from their cash bar! Be sure to be in for a night full of surprises! Costumes are welcomes but not required.

For a good scare…Witch’s Woods
When: Open on Thursdays-Sundays from September 30th-October 31st. Open on Halloween
Where: Nashoba Valley Ski Area, 79 Powers Road, Westford, MA
What: Witch’s Woods is open Thursday-Sunday nights in October. With over 200 characters on the grounds, you’ll be in for a scare! New this year is “Vampire Passage” an attraction that revolves around a box that’s tightly wrapped in chains and locks. Legend has it that the box contained the remains of a legendary female vampire. Tickets are on sale from 6:30pm-10:30 pm at Witch’s Woods or online. Admission is $37.00

For date night…Halloween Monster Movie Marathon at Luna Theater 
When: Saturday, October 29th, Noon-Late
Where: Luna Theater, 250 Jackson Street, 4th Foor, Lowell, MA
What: Halloween Monster Movie Marathon at the Luna Theatre. If you wear a costume you’ll be entered to win a four ticket pack to a future screening at The Luna Theater! Tickets are $8.00/pp for all day access. 

For a walk and history lesson…Concord Museum presents a guided Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Tour
When: Sunday, October 30th from 3:30pm-5:00pm
Where: Meet at the main gate of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, 34 Bedford St., Concord MA 01742.
What: Join us for this special Halloween event! Take a tour through historic Sleepy Hollow Cemetery with a Concord Museum guide. Learn about the lives and deaths of past Concordians through stories passed down through the generations. Concord Museum Members: $5 per person; Non-Members: $10 per person. Register online
