Celebrate the Centennial of the National Park Service
At Lowell National Historical Park

Lowell, MA – Lowell, MA — Lowell National Historical Park, along with national parks across the country, is celebrating the National Park Service Centennial all year. During the week of Founders’ Day, the park is hosting two special events, and you’re invited!
On Thursday August 25th, 2016 please join us for the National Park Service Centennial flag raising at 11:00 am at the City of Lowell JFK Civic Plaza. The morning will feature remarks from U.S. Representative Niki Tsongas, Lowell NHP Superintendent Celeste Bernardo, and City of Lowell officials. The raising of the NPS flag will be accompanied by the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band – Rhythm in Blue playing “America the Beautiful.” Immediately following the flag raising, we invite you to join us in a short walk to the Market Mills Courtyard at 246 Market St. to enjoy lunch time (please bring your own lunch) entertainment with the band and a birthday cake from 11:30 – 12:30 pm.
Two days later, on Saturday August 27th, the celebration continues – when Lowell National Historical Park celebrates the Centennial with a daylong, fun-filled program. Beginning at 10:00a.m., join Lowell Walks with Richard Howe and co-hosted by Superintendent Celeste Bernardo followed by an afternoon of music, dance, arts, crafts, family fun activities and a resource fair. The festivities will host the launch of a children’s book, Mr. Magnificent’s Magical Merrimack Adventure, written and illustrated by Ingrid Hess, a UMass Lowell professor. And, you don’t want to miss the world premiere of Looming, a live performance of music rooted in the sounds of industrial Lowell and dance created to tell the story of Lowell’s diverse community, a project in collaboration with UMass Lowell Music Department, Angkor Dance Troupe, Flying Orb Productions and local artists.
