Join the Concord Museum to celebrate the 25th Annual Family Trees: A Celebration of Children’s Literature opening open now through Sunday, January 3, 2021. Admire 28 fancifully decorated Holiday Trees and Wreaths inspired by themes from children’s literature.
“Family Trees was started at the Concord Museum 25 years ago to give a creative twist to Concord’s esteemed literary history and to share one of life’s greatest pleasures- reading to a child. Since then, we have brought over 800 children’s book titles to life using trees and wreaths of all shapes and sizes as the canvas,” explained Carol Haines, Manager of Exhibitions and Design at the Concord Museum. “Such an endeavor is made possible by the talented and dedicated volunteers who organize the event and design and decorate the trees, and by our many generous sponsors, including Barefoot Books. In this 25th anniversary year, we are excited to invite all those readers who cherish a favorite children’s book to Be Part of the Story.” To participate in this special initiative, share your Family Trees memories with us, make an ornament based on a favorite book, or donate to help inspire the next generation of readers. This year’s Honorary Chair of Family Trees is award-winning watercolor artist Nicole Tadgell, whose work has been honored by the Children’s Africana Book Award, the America’s Award, the Arkansas Diamond Primary Book Award and Growing Good Kids Award among others. Nicole Tadgell explained, “When children see themselves in books, imagination sparks and potential grows in surprising and unexpected ways. I hope my art helps inspire kids to reach for the stars, to become, to create, to learn and to love life in whatever the choose to do.” Past Honorary Chairs of Family Trees have included Tomie dePaola, Gregory Maguire, Peter Reynolds, Jane Yolen and her daughter Heidi Stemple, Cokie Roberts, Jerry Pinkney, D.B. Johnson, Melissa Sweet and Pamela Zagarenski.

Admission: During this benefit event, Concord Museum admission is $15 adults, $10 seniors, $6 children (5-18); children under 4 free. Members Free.
