DAVID LEBLANC ART EXHIBITION AT MANDARIN ASIAN BISTRO
Artist Reception: Sunday,  Jan. 25,  2016 4-6PM
Exhibit Runs: Jan. 3 – Feb. 29, 2016

Lowell, MA: Artist and Middlesex Community College adjunct professor, Mary Hart, is pleased to announce an exhibition of art by Action Abstraction artist, David Leblanc, on view from Jan. 3 through Feb. 29, 2016, at Mandarin Asian Bistro in downtown Lowell.

An artist reception is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 25, from 4 to 6 PM at the restaurant. Meet the artist and mingle with other artists and art lovers in the heart of downtown Lowell.

As a painter David Leblanc was influenced by the German Expressionists, American Abstract Expressionists, and artists Egon Schiele and Jean Michel Basquiat.  Feeling the need to develop a unique artistic identity he looked to another medium entirely.  “Since I was old enough to hold a book, I have been fascinated with comic books,” Leblanc says. “The ferocity of the action roared through my mind and stimulated my imagination.”  So he combined elements of abstract painting with his lifelong affinity for comic book art and SLAM! BAM! BOOM! his Action Abstraction genre was born.

“David’s work is exciting and immediate, as pop culture elements merge into pure form,” says curator Mary Hart, “ and the large wall space at the Mandarin will be a perfect showcase for this colorful and energetic work.”

Leblanc’s work has been exhibited at several galleries and group shows as well as at comic book conventions. He is represented by The Blue Wave Gallery in Amesbury, MA.

The artist holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMass/Dartmouth). A former Lowellian and Western Avenue Studios artist, he now works out of his studio in Amesbury.

The exhibit is part of a continuing art series hosted by Mandarin Asian Bistro and curated by Mary Hart.

Mandarin Asian Bistro, a Chinese food and Sushi restaurant, is located at 24 Market Street in downtown Lowell.

About Mary Hart:  Mary Hart is a Lowell resident, an Arts League of Lowell artist, an artist member of the Brush Art Gallery and an adjunct professor in the art department at Middlesex Community College.
