Fall is nearly over, so it’s time to get ready for winter in Merrimack Valley. This means throwing on the cozy sweaters and fuzzy boots, sipping hot drinks, and making plans to see the great winter attractions of the area. Whether you’re looking for a winter wonderland or would rather stay cozy indoors, you’ll find some great experiences and activities while visiting Merrimack.

Go Skiing in Merrimack Valley

Winter sports are a great way to get outside and be active, even then there’s snow on the ground. Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Westford, MA is exactly where you want to go for skiing, snow tubing, and general winter fun.

Not a skier but been itching to try it out? You can sign up for one-day private lessons for up to five people. Don’t worry about buying a whole bunch of expensive equipment, either. They offer daily equipment rentals so first-timers can get a feel for the slopes before committing to a new sport. And after a long day on the slopes, head to the Outlook Restaurant for a hearty meal from their winter menu.

See A Christmas Carol

There are few holiday stories more beloved than A Christmas Carol. The story of the Miserly Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future that change his outlook on the holiday season and life in general has captured the imagination for over 180 years. Originally written by Charles Dickens as a novella in 1843, the story has seen many stage adaptations since its publication.

A Christmas Carol is back at Merrimack Repertory Theatre by popular demand! You’ll get to experience the timeless story of redemption and holiday cheer and watch Lowell’s talented local performers take on the iconic roles. Tickets go from late November to mid-December so be sure to reserve yours early!

Get Cozy with Quilts

Is there a better way to get ready for winter than by getting out your seasonal quilt? Not at all, because they’re cozy, colorful, and a great way to bring comfort and cheer to a room. People have felt this way for centuries, as proven by the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, MA. It’s a great experience for crafters, historians, and winter lovers alike.

From November through April, the museum is open from 10 am to 4 pm Wednesday through Saturday. For just $8 admission, you can see changing exhibits of significant and beautifully preserved antique quilts in America. There are galleries showcasing contemporary and modern shows that feature the work of prominent quilt artists from around the world. Best of all, you can stave off the winter chill by buying a cozy quilt at the museum store.

Winter doesn’t have to be the time of year where you hole up inside and don’t travel. From sports to theater to museums, you’ll have your pick of great ways to make the most of the season in Merrimack Valley.
