Discovery Museum announced today the return of naturalist Sam Jaffe’s The Caterpillar Lab live caterpillar exhibition to the Museum. It will be open to the public from Tuesday, June 8 through Sunday, June 20 (the Museum is closed on Mondays).
Discovery Museum is operating under COVID protocols: advanced reservations are required to visit and masks are required to be worn in the Museum by all visitors aged 2 and up.
The exhibition features a huge variety of strange, beautiful, and sometimes grotesque local caterpillars, up-close and in all phases of their life cycles, curated and explained by Jaffe and other educators from the Lab. The exhibit will allow visitors to explore the caterpillar world in more depth, see amazing examples of strange and surprising adaptations, witness the varying stages metamorphosis in real time, and better appreciate the complex ecosystems that exist right in our own back yards. Jaffe’s breathtaking photography serves as both a backdrop for the space and as a point of reference.
A visitor-favorite experience, this is the eighth time that Jaffe’s lab has been in residence at the Museum. Jaffe, a naturalist, photographer, and educator, founded The Caterpillar Lab in New Hampshire in 2013. The Lab uses live, native New England caterpillars to educate and create an appreciation for the incredible natural value of their backyards, neighborhoods, and green spaces.
