Nature in the Greater Merrimack Valley

Nature surrounds us and provides us sanctuary from the everyday stress of the hustle and bustle.  For this reason, I’d have to say that one of the greatest attractions in the City of Lowell would be the Merrimack River.  To visit Lowell Heritage State park and walk along the boulevard, or the boardwalk, is a serene luxury that not enough seem to take advantage of.  I’ve often visited at sunset where the sun’s vibrant colors reflect off the water’s surface in a spectacular way.  It’s a great place to go for a run with the surrounding greenery and the sound of the river by your side, you can really feel at peace.  I’ve often enjoyed the playful laughter of children as they play Frisbee with their parents, and seen probably at least one of every species of dog being taken for a walk.

If you want to be even more secluded from the city, I would suggest taking a walk through the Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsboro State Forest.  I prefer going here in the morning.  With the sun bursting through the trees, and the streams bubbling by, I couldn’t ask for a more relaxing place.  I often take my dog for walks through the trails and laugh as she avoids all contact with water as I try to get her in the streams to cool her down.  They have great off-road trails for riding bikes as well, for those of you with a more adventurous spirit…and a bike.  So next time you’ve hit a day that hits you back harder, I suggest you take advantage of the world around you.  You’d be surprised what the quiet can provide.

See you about town,

Alura
