PEGGIE BOUVIER ART EXHIBITION AT MANDARIN ASIAN BISTRO
Artist Reception: Sunday, March 6, 4 – 6 PM
Exhibit Runs: March 2 – April 30, 2016
Lowell, MA: Middlesex Community College adjunct professor and community arts organizer, Mary Hart, is pleased to announce an exhibition of art by realist painter, Peggie Bouvier, on view from March 2 through April 30, 2016, at downtown Lowell’s Mandarin Asian Bistro.
An artist reception is scheduled for Sunday, March 6, from 4 to 6 PM at the restaurant.
Ms. Bouvier began her series of large-scale works, depicting paper bags, as an artistic challenge to make the mundane interesting to the viewer. “I was intrigued by how invented color brought life to the lifeless objects,” she says. “Quickly, the bags became characters in an on-going scenario.” The large size of the works allows careful study of the surfaces while the warm hues bathe the paintings in mellow light.
Curator Mary Hart says, “Peggie’s work is quintessential painting, presenting the play of varied pigment on the canvas to create depth and movement, inviting the viewer to explore the surfaces and allowing the viewer to travel into the landscape of the objects present.”
Bouvier holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, MA and works out of her Western Avenue Studio in Lowell.
To kick-off the 2016 Downtown Lowell First Thursdays series, the artist will also be on hand for an informal reception at the Mandarin Asian Bistro on Thursday, April 7, from 7- 8 PM.
The exhibit is part of a continuing art series hosted by Mandarin Asian Bistro and curated by Mary Hart.
Mandarin Asian Bistro, a Chinese food and Sushi restaurant, is located at 24 Market Street in downtown Lowell and is open 7 days a week from 11:30 AM to 11 PM.
About Mary Hart: Mary Hart is a Lowell resident, an Arts League of Lowell artist, an artist member of the Brush Art Gallery and an adjunct professor in the art department at Middlesex Community College.
