Run Your Way Through the Greater Merrimack Valley This Fall
(Lowell, MA): This fall is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors and stay active with the many races and activities taking place in the Greater Merrimack Valley. Grab your sneakers, family, friends and colleagues and enjoy your days running through and exploring this beautiful area. In addition to the trails you might find in the many cities and towns throughout the Merrimack Valley, the following are a few road races not to miss this season!
Kerouac Run: On Sunday, September 28th in Lowell, MA runners will gather to set off on the towns most popular 5K. The Jack Kerouac 5K Road Race begins at noon at Kerouac Park located at 75 Bridge Street, follows along the Merrimack River and back down along the riverbank. Runners will enjoy beautiful scenery as they run along this enjoyable flat course. The race is followed by an awards ceremony and participators are welcome to participate in the post race Pub Crawl to the local Lowell establishments that support the race. “Nothing behind me. Everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road,” Jack Kerouac.
Bay State Marathon: Love distance running? Here’s an opportunity to qualify for the Boston Marathon! On Sunday, October 19th the Baystate Half Marathon or Full Marathon both kick off at 8:00am. Both races are fast, flat double loop courses. The Half is a double loop using portions of the marathon course and the Full is a double loop course beginning in front of the Tsongas Center and ends after the second loop back at the Center. With digital clocks every two miles, stations of water, lemon lime Gatorade, and power gels along the way, and weather being in the 50s, as history shows, it is a beautiful and enjoyable day out in the Merrimack Valley!
Panic in the Dark 5k: Looking for something a little more adventuresome? Panic in the Dark 5k is the Original Nightmare Obstacle Run taking place on November 1 in Lowell. Runners wear headlamps as they head out into the dark of night. Runners will encounter haunted areas and course Zombies, who eagerly await their arrival. Enter the world of your worst nightmare and favorite horror click! Prizes will be awarded at the end for best costumes, best zombies, best team spirit/costumes, largest team and top runners (male & female). Runners must be 18 to participate.
