Do you have a bad case of the winter blues? Are you sick of lounging on the couch, spending more time scrolling through your Netflix queue than actually watching anything? It’s no secret that wintertime boredom can get a little out of hand.

Luckily, the Greater Merrimack area has one of its most famous winter events just around the corner to get you active and out of the house!

The Lowell Winterfest Returns!

Lowell’s annual winter festival finally returns to the Merrimack Valley on Friday, February 18th, and Saturday, February 19th! This family-friendly winter festival has been a true Massachusetts gem for years. After a year on hiatus, the Lowell Winterfest makes a welcome return to add a little much-needed fun and positivity.

In fact, Only In Your State calls the Lowell Winterfest “the one annual winter festival in Massachusetts every Bay Stater should bundle up for at least once.” So, if you haven’t had the chance to make it down to a festival yet, there’s no better time than the present!

This year, most of the event will be held within the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, located at 50 East Merrimack Street. You and your family can expect to find plenty of fun things to do (and eat) at the festival. There’s a little something for everyone, including:

Electrifying Live Music!

The Lowell Winterfest organizers have lined up incredible local and regional musicians to rock the stage at the festival. Their energetic performances will keep your knees shaking all night long!

Family-Friendly Games & Activities

What’s a festival without fun and games? At the Winterfest, children of all ages are invited to participate in great games, creative activities, lace up their skates for some ice skating and other winter activities, and much more.

A Festival Feast

Okay, we know why you’re really here – for all the delicious food, of course! Local food vendors and food trucks line up yearly to provide festival-goers with many delicious and unique bites. And you’ll be sure to find something for all members of the family to enjoy, whether you’re craving sweet, savory, or deep-fried! (umm….. yum!)

The Famous Soup Competition

Speaking of food, who wants to warm their stomachs with some mouthwatering cups of soup handmade by local restaurants? We know we do! Some of our favorite local restaurants will be competing for that top spot as Winterfest soup champion, so be sure to try them all and vote for your favorites.

Find Handmade Treasures At The Winterfest Arts Market

This year, local artists and crafters from across the region will bring their one-of-a-kind items to the Winterfest Arts Market. With a marketplace filled with handcrafted items and works of art, there’s no telling what hidden gem or treasure you can bring home or give to someone special.

Host Your Own Booth

Are you a maker? Winterfest still has spots open for artists, crafters, and makers to join the Arts Market. To learn more about hosting your own booth, where you can display and sell your own handmade items or works of art, please email Iris Perez at iperez@spectaclelive.com.

The Chocolate Festival 2022 At St. Anne’s Episcopal Church

Did you think the fun stopped there? Wrong-O!

While attending the Winterfest on February 19th, be sure to stop by the St. Anne’s Episcopal Church on 8 Kirk Street sometime between 11 am and 4 pm.

Here, you’ll find all-you-can-eat chocolate (as if we need to say more), exciting raffles, and more! Best of all, all of this comes at only $10 a ticket! And, for a little extra motivation, here are a few recent social posts from their event page on Facebook:

“Tonight we are making chocolate creme de dulce pretzel bites topped with white chocolate.  Wow.”

“Wow!  We got strawberry, vanilla and chocolate wafers dipped in semisweet chocolate in addition to the samoas and other things. Of course we had to sample, they are all delicious!  We’re also working over the weekend on miniature whoopie pies and white chocolate orange creamsicle fudge. Over the next couple of weeks we are going to cook up around 25 lbs of bacon to make chocolate bacon candies. Everything is better with bacon, especially chocolate!”

How could you not be excited about that?!
