The Whistler House Museum of Art is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, the 2016 Fall Juried Members Exhibition. The show will run from November 16, 2016 to January 21, 2017. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, November 19, from 2 to 4 pm in the Parker Gallery.

The Lowell Art Association, Inc. (LAA) is the oldest incorporated art association in the country. In this year’s Fall Juried Members Exhibition, see works from the artist members of the LAA in a range of subjects and mediums. From oils to photographs, seascapes to city streets, experience the world through varying perspectives in this exciting new show.

Jurors Glenn Szegedy and Lynne B. Mehlman selected 70 works from more than 250 submissions by over 110 artist members of the Lowell Art Association, Inc. Judged on such criteria as technique, composition, perspective, and originality, the paintings, sculptures, and photographs featured in the exhibition represent both modernist and traditional methods and aesthetics.

Szegedy graduated summa cum laude with a BFA from the University of New Hampshire, where he received degrees in sculpture and drawing, with a minor in art history. He also holds a degree from the New England School of Art and Design, specializing in environmental design.  Throughout his career, he has curated, juried, and hung work for numerous museums and galleries throughout New England, including the New Bedford Museum of Fine Art, the R. Levy Gallery, and the Time Warner Gallery. Additionally, Szegedy exhibits his paintings in many museums and galleries and has numerous works in private and public collections. He also enjoys teaching art to children and adults in the Merrimack Valley Region.

Mehlman is a juried member of the Guild of Boston Artists, the Rockport Art Association & Museum, and the Lowell Art Association, Inc., where she exhibits regularly. She is an artist who has studied under Robert Cormier and David Curtis, and has won numerous awards. She has previously juried for the Boston Guild. Additionally, Mehlman is a member of and participates in regional and international competitions at the International ARC Salon, the Academic Artists Association, the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, the American Artists Professional League, and the Oil Painters of America.
“We were overwhelmed and impressed by the number of fine works that were submitted for this Juried Members Exhibition by our ever-growing artist membership,” says President and Executive Director Sara Bogosian. “I believe our viewing audience will be intrigued and elated by the range of works that are a part of this exciting exhibition.”
