The Whistler House Museum of Art is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition,LISA KOVVURI – The Portrait Experience with photographer Adrien Bisson. The show, presented exclusively at the Whistler House, will run from Saturday, September 9, 2017 to November 4, 2017. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 9 from 2 to 4 pm in the Parker Gallery.

Lisa Kovvuri is an award-winning portrait artist whose work embraces several media. She received her BFA degree in printmaking in 1991 from the Cleveland Institute of Art. Kovvuri began to pursue painting seriously after moving to Sacramento, CA in 1999 where she joined a figure painting group and began exhibiting her work in juried exhibitions and galleries in the area.

Known for her portrait, figurative and still life works, Kovvuri’s paintings are characterized by a direct painting approach that is carried through to a refined finish with sensitively considered detail. Skilled draftsmanship and a keen eye for subtlety have earned her a national reputation for rendering images with a genuine realism and feeling of natural poetic ease on canvas. Kovvuri explains, “Portraits are a way of connecting with people and of expressing something about our shared humanity. I find inspiration in what the sitters of my portraits bring to the painting.”

Kovvuri, a member of the Lowell Art Association Inc./Whistler House Museum of Art, has exhibited works nationwide. Her exhibitions include Oil Painters of America; Salon International; The Salmagundi Club, NY; The Bosque Conservatory, Clifton, TX; Academy of Art Gallery, San Francisco, CA; and the Massachusetts State House, Boston, MA. The Whistler House Museum of Art is pleased to exhibit this collection of beautifully crafted portraits.

“We are delighted to be featuring this extraordinary collection of portraits by our very own Whistler House Studio Artist, Lisa Kovvuri. The exhibition presents the process of portrait painting from beginning to end. It’s filled with extraordinary portraits of people from all walks of life from Lowell and beyond,” says President and Executive Director Sara Bogosian. “The Whistler House Museum of Art invites everyone to experience this truly beautiful exhibition by one of the most prolific and talented artists in New England today.”

In addition to Kovvuri’s portrait paintings, Adrien Bisson will be presenting The Portrait Experience Through Photography.

Learning to expose, develop, and print photographs as a teenager, Bisson spent hours making photographs of his surroundings in rural New Hampshire. Before long, he was shooting for and getting published by two local newspapers. At the same time, Bisson was developing an interest in music, eventually studying trumpet performance at Berklee College of Music, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree, magna cum laude.
Since then, Bisson rekindled his interest in photography. He has built a commercial and editorial photography business and has maintained his passion for creating and showing his artistic work. “In my portrait work, my goal is to make a connection with my subject. C reating images of a person is a process; we collaborate to create something that is part them and part me,” says Bisson. Bisson is a member of the Lowell Art Association, Inc./Whistler House Museum of Art, Arts League of Lowell, and has a studio at Western Avenue.
