A week ago today we kicked off the 28th annual Lowell Folk Festival. On Friday evening the crowds were electric, excited and the weather was darn near perfect. As one of the six producing partners, it always amazes me how this signature event falls into place each and every year. It takes countless hours to prepare, many staff hours, hundreds of volunteers and six very committed community partners working side by side to showcase Lowell, Massachusetts. And of course, it is the financial support from our Sponsors and all the folks that donated to the bucket brigade, bought merchandise, supported the ethnic food vendors and artists that allow us to throw Lowell’s biggest party of the year!
The sounds coming from the Boston Banda de Paz, as they led hundreds of residents from over 40 countries carrying their Country’s flag across the stage at Boarding House park, certainly set the tone for what was to be a fabulous weekend of traditional music & arts in Lowell.
What I love most about the weekend is that everyone that you talk to, young and old, loves the Festival. Whether it’s to meet up with friends (new and old), sway to the music (how about that Marquise Knox) dance the night away or savor your favorite food. You got to admit, we have something unique here in Lowell.
As I travel around in my golf cart, I get to experience the festival from a number of different perspectives and all I can say is I’m honored to be part of this tradition in Lowell. If you joined us for the celebration, you know what I’m talking about…. If not, there is always next year (and facebook, twitter and instagram!)
Until next time,
Deb
