When the weather turns cold, it’s hard to find things to do. Many people would rather stay in than brave the cold. However, there is something about live entertainment that can draw people into theaters, even during the winter.

Maybe it’s the knowledge that a live performance can’t ever be fully replicated. Perhaps it’s the energy the crowd gives off and the appeal of hanging out with your fellow fans. Or it could be the fact that there are so many options for live entertainment in Merrimack Valley. Whatever the reason, here are the places you should see a performance.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre

Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell is known for putting on remarkable new and contemporary plays throughout its multi-show season. If you’re the type of person who likes plays that make you think, this is the theatre for you. They even offer great prices for tickets, from $5 preview nights to discounts for educators, students, and veterans.

Chelmsford Center for the Arts

Chelmsford Center for the Arts over in Chelmsford is where locals can really shine and show off their talents through community theater and other live performances. You’ll see plays, musicals, and talent shows on stage that will make it a night to remember. If you want to be part of the action, the CCA also offers trivia, open mic, comedy, and music nights.

Cary Hall

Over in Lexington, Cary Hall is where you can appreciate classical music. Home to Lexington’s professional orchestra, the Lexington Symphony, it’s the go-to place for an upscale night out. However, this theater isn’t limited to just classical music. Their calendar includes performances by jazz musicians, folk singers, and more.

Taffeta

Back in Lowell, Taffeta is where the hip young performers take the stage. You’ll see wild comedy shows, hear covers of famous musicians, rock out to up-and-coming indie bands, and so much more. Most of the performances are standing-room only, but that means you can dance around and groove to the music. You’ll forget about the cold outside as the beats get hot.

Tsongas Center at Umass Lowell

Are you a sports fan? The Tsongas Center at Umass Lowell is one of Massachusetts’ finest venues and is home to the UMass Lowell River Hawks hockey and basketball teams. Better than sitting on the sofa at home, you and other fans can cheer on the teams as they compete for the championship in a venue that can seat up to 6,500 hockey patrons. If sports aren’t your things, the venue also hosts concerts where up to 7,800 people can comfortably enjoy the live music.

Live entertainment is worth venturing into the cold this winter. They create unforgettable experiences and are a great opportunity to get out of the house. Check out the venues, book your tickets, and have fun in Merrimack Valley!
