Lexington Battle Green

Share this post:

On the morning of April 19, 1775, “the first blood was spilt in the dispute with Great Britain,” as George Washington wrote in his diary. In that short skirmish 77 Militia faced an advanced column of 100 light infantry out of 850 British Regulars. Eight colonists lost their lives, 10 were wounded and two British soldiers were injured. After the battle, Samuel Adams exclaimed to John Hancock, “What a glorious morning for America!”
