Before Lexington was Lexington, Indigenous communities have lived in this area for thousands of years. Today, we celebrate them with a free open house at the Lexington Depot to learn more about Native American culture.
9:00 – 10:00 AM, join science educator Fran Ludwig for a guided walk of the Lexington Paint Mine, a nature preserve and perfect showcase of the plants, animals, and minerals used by Native communities. Tour will meet at the Estabrook School parking lot.
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, explore the Depot to view all of Lexington’s history, from pre-European contact to today.
From 1:00 – 4:00 PM, join Mashpee Wampanoag Knowledge Keepers Darius and Toodie Coombs to learn about Native culture by making your own wampum necklace and corn husk doll.
FREE!
This event created in collaboration with Native Americans in Lexington (NAIL) and supported in part by a generous donation from Anne W. Lee.
