About the Golden Gloves in Lowell

The New England Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions has been a proud Lowell tradition since 1945, drawing fighters, fans, and families each spring. Presented by The Lowell Sun Charities, founded in 1947, the tournament carries a mission of respect, dignity, and community pride as it celebrates 79 years of boxing excellence in 2026.

Coming to Lowell, Massachusetts

For the first time in more than three decades, the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions is returning to Lowell — the last time the event was held here was in 1995.

Long celebrated as the heart of amateur boxing in New England, Lowell has hosted the New England Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions every spring since 1945, producing countless champions and unforgettable moments inside the historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.

In 2027, that same storied venue will welcome the nation’s best amateur fighters as they compete for championship titles and the chance to make history once again. Visitors and fans from across the country will experience world-class boxing, local pride, and the unmistakable energy of a city where champions are made.
